Lemon OG Kush Strain Information
There are few cannabis strains that have an expected smell to how they look. The Lemon OG Kush strain is one of those. With its bright green ...
The pineapple express strain, according to Seth Rogan (who was one of the writers and lead actors in the movie of the same name) said that “…there was no Pineapple Express weed before the movie Pineapple Express”. The name comes from and actual name of a weather system from Hawaii that hits the Pacific Northwest where Seth grew up. Coming full circle, “Hawaiian” is one of the parent genetics of this strain.
Coming up with a fictional name of a cannabis strain and making it the title of a movie was clearly a very good marketing tactic. This strain has thousands of positive reviews and a favorite among bud tenders at dispensaries.
Pineapple Express is a result of combining the tropical sativa “Hawaiian” strain with a hard hitting hybrid “Trainwreck”. Trainwreck strain itself has high levels of THC and know for inducing happiness, euphoria and creativity. Trainwreck’s genetics (Pineapple Express’ Grandparents) come from Thai, Mexican sativas and indicas from the Afghan region.
The Hawaiian strain is one of those strains that have been around a while and very little documentation was done on the strain. Because of this, there isn’t much known about the genetics of the Hawaiian strain. Hawaiian strain, like Trainwreck, also has higher levels of THC between 15%-25%. This tropical sativa is also know for its creativity and happiness inducing effects.
Its a tall plant with bright green leaves and chunky, tightly packed flowers. Authentic pineapple express strains (not variations) will be a sativa dominant hybrid.
This tropical strain flavor is described as being sweet and earthy with a hint of pineapple. The smell of pineapple express is one of the things that makes it more memorable than other strains. If you took pineapples, apples, mango, tropical skittles and mushed that smell together… that is the best description of the aroma coming from the pineapple express strain. It literally makes you salivate and doesn’t smell like any other strain, aside from its Hawaiian parent.
Positive effects of the pineapple express strain are very similar to its parent plants that have overlapping characteristics like uplifting, euphoria, creativity and happiness inducing. Effects of being both relaxed and energetic at the same are it’s own unique characteristics provided by that genetic mash up.
Negative effects of the pineapple express strain are more the common, yet stereotypical ones like dry mouth and dry eyes. Due to the high THC levels of this strain, sometimes paranoia and anxiety may be an effect. These are effects that are more associated more with high THC strains and have less to do with the genetics of the plant.
Due to its “happy” nature, pineapple express strain may be beneficial with depression and stress. Unfortunately, this strain doesn’t produce much CBD at all which isn’t ideal for physiological pain relief.
By crossing it with a strain that has high CBD levels, breeders may be able to come up with something that is both high in THC and high in CBD which would theoretically balance out some the mental effects while providing more physical relief.
While there is very little CBD (cannabidiol) produced in pineapple express, there are copious amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) ranging between 20-25%.
Given that pineapple express is more on the uplifted side of being happy and creative, combined with its pleasant smell and flavors, it would be a great fit for products intended for daytime/afternoon use. The pineapple express strain produces the following terpenes:
If your in the Vancouver, BC area (Seth Rogan’s hometown) LotusLand Cannabis Club has pineapple express strain at some of there locations. In Denver, CO you can find this strain at dispensaries like ‘Native Roots’ and ‘Lightshade’.
Growing pineapple express strain isn’t easy but that doesn’t mean it is difficult to grow. If you’ve grown a cannabis plant before and have some experience growing cannabis, you should be good to go. The flowering process will take 7-9 weeks which is on the shorter end compared to the growing time of many other cannabis strains. For a plant that can produce up to 3-6 ounces of flower per square foot, that’s a short turn around time.
